Post Cynolebias nigripinnis

I've heard these things are being used for mosquito control in parts of california. I was wondering where to get some and what conditions they need in their tank.

Post Re: Cynolebias nigripinnis

They were first discovered ibn South america in 1908. The males are blue-black to blackwith iridescent green or blue spots. The female is more of a lighter grey to ochre. there lively often aggressive killiefish, that average out at about 2" and would do quite well in a 10 gallon tank. They do best in a species tank with soft, slightly acidic water, 4 degrees dGH and pH of about 6.0.They bury the eggs in a bottom layer of peatwith water temps between 64 and 77degrees. A light layer of boiled peat should be used on the bottom, spawning is instigates with male and 2 females and takes plave in peat. Parents should be then removed and spereated since the male will continue the spawning ritual. Dry the peat and eggs then add water after 3-4 months. the fry should be raised on artemia nauplii. They tend to stay towards the bottom of the tank, and a difficult fish to keep alive. However, they also have a short life span, of aobut 10 months. They are also called the Black-Finned Pearl, Dwarf Argentine Pearl. HTH, thats all my book said!
