Default Golden wonder

I have never heard of these before, but my petsmart here in town has started selling them for $2.99 a piece. I really like killis, and this is the cheapest I have ever seen them. Can they work with what I have and six Danios?

Try to get a scientific name. I've seen Aph. australe sold as golden pheasants. I'd imagine you'd be ok, unless it looks obviously wrong.

They kinda look like this sunset guppy. They look really healthy and are being kept with cool looking blue danios and rainbow fish and lots of snails. They are actually quite varied in size in the tank, but all look very healthy. Thanks for the quick reply Wayne.

The killie sold under the name 'golden wonder' or 'golden wonder panchax' is a gold form of Aplocheilus lineatus

$2.99 is a good price too. These are easy killies; quite large, and very good jumpers. Keep your tank covered!!!!

In a spacious well-planted tank, you will have fry appearing with the adults fairly soon, as long as you keep everybody well fed.

Incidently these fish will be fine with Danios, they both come fron Southern Asia, India etc (the wild form, that is, not the gold form! see below)

Yea I saw those at petsmart too. I was wondering what they ate because I am now thinking of either getting killis or dwarf puffers so far the dwarf puffers because I just got tons of snails for them!!!

These guys are lots of fun. i picked up a pair around 2 years ago and still miss them. I threw fiery skippers into the tank and they buzzed around against the lid unto one of the pair leaped up and smashed it the way a bass might take a lure. They have a shiny scale in the middle of there heads typical of panchax, fundulus, and Epiplatys-some think it helps attract insects to the fish to be eaten but I kinda doubt that.

Knowing this, it is a bit obvious that you don't try keeping small, surface dwellers(bottom dwellers may be a bit safer) with them!

Also...if you want something that the store won't be too hesitant to take for store credit...give these a shot. For breeding, try to find the larger fish, I lucked out and obtained a pair that was about 3 inches. Smaller ones are said to be less fertile and eggs more prone to fungus...but you just have to be patient and they will get to larger sizes. I remember the LFS guy showing me a huge one that must have been 7 inches in length.

Actually, the Aplocheilus lineatus is not what they have at the petsmart. They look a lot "cuter" then the one in your pic, and the have the coloration of the guppy pic previously submitted. I do like the one in your pic, though. It looks a lot more gold !!

They are probably young ones. Or perhaps A. panchax.
