Greetings.

I don't keep killi's anymore, but I did keep and breed Gardneri's and Australe's. I usually had them housed in a planted tank 10g or less and left the male and female together if they seemed to like each other. Fry were gently siphoned out if I saw their little eyes poking out from underneath my dwarf anubias, etc. I liked the species but found their slow reproductive rate bothersome. However, they were much fun to watch, and quite beautiful. Most of mine also took to hand feeding or eating right from the tongs (live blackworms).

Good luck!

I have a pair of what's know Fundulopanchax gardneri in a 5. They're the only freshwater fish I have left now. I have no idea why killies aren't more popular - small, often tough, beautiful and while some are tough many are beautiful.

I also keep killies. There are a couple of active killie forums:

The shop that I work at sells one species of killies ( name escapes me ). I always thought that they are wonderful fish, however pricey. The only reason I don't own them is because their price. I personally don't take care of the fish at my shop but on my breaks I often gaze longingly at their tank.

I like the look of Killies,I just have never seen them at any store I have gone to.I have seen them sold online for way too much money.. plus the idea of ordering a fish online seems kinda risky to me..espically when they are 30-50 bucks a pop (plus shipping)

I bought one for four dollars but I live in the boonies where fish keeping isn't all that popular. He was in my community tank and I dont think he could compete with the other fish and died in 2 weeks.

You can buy killies on Aquabid for $8.00 or more, depending. Shipping is often $5-6. YOU can also buy killie eggs on Aquabid.
