| Bluefin killies hello. My taste for the unusual has also prompted me to acquire 8 bluefin killies, Lucania goodei. Bluefins are North American freshwater killies (I believe the family is Fundulidae...there's a couple of families that have members which are commonly called "killies"). They are absolutely stunning, peaceful, and easy to keep...but practically know one has them.
North America has some great fish... |

| Hey theeyrietrainer!
I'm actually still waiting on my bluefins, though the Gardneris arrived.
I'll post when they come.
You can own bluefins! I ordered them from Arizona Aquatic Gardens. They also sell American Flagfish, if you are so inclined. http://www.azgardens.com. |

| Oh...I didn't notice at first you were from Canadia...
Do you need such licenses? The place I ordered them from breeds 'em and ships...they're not captured in the Everglades. Are you sure they won't ship to Canada? |

| they could ship to canada, but I need an imports liscense. yes i do need such a liscense cause your shipping internationally and they have to make sure it is disease, parasite free before they allow it through at customs. they might have an exports and imports liscense because they are a company, and many companies like these have such liscense. the only time you dont need such a liscense is when you livei n the same country. since your living in the same country, they do not need to check for disease or parasites because if there is some epidemic, its still in the same country!
well, they may not be captured in the everglades, but that is where the bluefins originate from, and if you live there, you are able to catch them (if you are of a certain age with a permit) but like many killies, they reproduce easily and steadily and are very pleasing to the eye!

| I see. I hope you can find a Canadian breeder then. I'll contact you about least killies.
Temperate fish are terribly overlooked. They're actually my favorites. |

| well bluefin killies dont get blue at all. the only blue on them is their fins. that is only in the males as well. i guess its sexually maturity that gets the male blue or maybe a battle for mate to show of the true colors!

| Hmmm...I knew they didn't get bright blue, but the pics I saw did have blue fins and the bodies were kinda iridescent. Oh well...as long a they're healthy....they may show some blue fins yet.
It's interesting how there are maybe a grand total of four people who post on this part of the forum! |
