| Cold Water. Maybe I'm the only one, but I think it might be a good idea to have a section for cold water fish such as gold fish. Many beginners have cold water fish that they are learning with, and those are the ones who need help, and if they get it right away they could stop a big mistake with an expensive tropical fish. This section could even cover ponds and things with koi ect. I doubt many of us have cold water tanks so a section like this isnt necessary, but might be nice as I (and others if they are about) feel out of place talking about my goldfish and what else goes in cold water, in the freshwater general discussion.
Just an idea, and if my thoughts are correct and noone has cold water fish, then ofcourse theres no need to consider a section like this.

| Great! So far that makes a total of two of us with cold water (70*f and below). If there happens to be anyone else I'm sure a section like this would be useful.

| not to rain on your parade or anything, but after more consideration is seems that realistically the interest level may not be there on this website...I think the range of cold water options is fairly limited as far as fish, though there are certainly a number of bog plants (thrushes, lilies, etc) and other creatures (turtles, snails, crabs, salamanders, frogs to name a few) that can be of interest (and are to me)....i know more people must have a thought on this....

| Cold water tanks, for bass, and other native fish, as well as temperate marine tanks require chillers which are very expensive. |

| Yeah theres probably not that many people who would be interested. I also ment to include other cold water creatures, not just limit it to fish, but then thats not what this website is about.

| There seems to be enough turtle questions every so often. But most people don't keep cold water tanks. I have goldfish, love goldfish, but it seems I'm the only one that has any type of extensive collection on this site, although a few others might have ponds, which I don't.
Most of the time, I just think beginners don't really know the difference between cold water and tropical species, that's why there are so many questions on the beginners board about goldfish. Even if we made a seperate goldfish section, as we have for other fish species, I don't think that would slow down the goldfish posting on the beginners board, as it hasn't with any of the other species.
It would just be more work and one more board for Johny to maintain.

| Your all probably right, but if anyone does want to talk about unheated water fish/species I'd love to participate =)

| I went to this page to suggest a pond forum but you beat me to it (more or less).
The thing is, ponds are not just for cold water species.
I belong to a cichlid club that has many members who keep ponds for thier cichlids & bring them in for the winter. The fish breed like crazy, & have SUPER colors from natural foods (insects etc.).
I bought some swordtails last yr. at a another clubs auction & these fish were HUGE, with vibrant colors from being outside, just in a 60gal. tub on this guys back porch.
Something more to think about....Rich |
