Many folks mentioned the tightly-knit community of friendly people who go a long ways in making this site a great place to be...and I agree completely.
There are plenty of places on the net to find the fish-related information you're looking for, but it doesn't mean squat when the information you get is questionable/inaccurate. Or even worse, when the people treat you with anything less than the respect you deserve. Oftentimes folks on other forums I've looked into are much too quick to jump down the throats of newcomers (and each other's throats) whenever something is questionable. All too often I've seen new members on these sites receive a scolding before they even knew what they had done wrong---and many of them fail to return (without receiving solutions to their problems) at all. Even worse---a great deal of these folks quit the hobby altogether out of frustration.
I'm very happy to say that MFT offers a much more personable atmosphere.
Visitors and new members to the site are treated with respect and are given the advice they need for further advancement within the hobby. In the rarer instances in which advice is off the mark, other members are quick to chime in and clear things up without alienating others. MFTers are treated as unique individuals (which is what we are!) and not just mere numbers or bits of data flowing across the myriad of interconnected networks which make up this vast 'universe' we call 'the web.'
As far as any suggestions on changes/improvements to MFT...
I really don't have many, because I think this site is already steaming ahead just fine and dandy! Something that comes to mind is along the lines of others' suggestions regarding more smilies...
I would take this even further and suggest that we categorize smilies so that you don't have to wait nearly as long whenever you click on 'More' to see the ones that aren't sitting available on the screen right in front of you. In other words, we could maybe list 'Happy/Positive Smilies' (using the standard smile as the icon for the clickable link which then expands a window full of happy faces, thumbsup, and the like) under one category. Another category could be 'Sad/Negative Smilies' (using the standard pouty face as the icon for the clickable link which then expands a window full of pouty faces, thumbsdown, and the like). This could be continued for 'Surprise/Shock' Smilies, 'Sarcastic Smilies,' and the rest could then be 'All Other Smilies.'
Keep in mind that those ^^^ are just examples of how we could categorize things. The main advantage in doing something like this would be in the loading times saved by expanding a window of
one category of smilies versus the current method which involves clicking on the 'More' link, which then brings up a window of
all the smilies.
Anyway, I think this site is great Johnny, and I really can't think of a whole lot else that can be improved upon. I'm happy with things as-is, which is why choose to keep sticking around.
