Post Voting

I think it is time to look into a system that only allows you to vote once on 1 tank. I mean, when I look at the votes for one tank and it 300+, and others only at 30+ in the same catagory, it would indicate someone mass voting for their tank to be the top (one is even 910. We dont even have half that many members). Thats not what the voting system is about and it is being used and abused. I think arcad should look into it. Maybe Duellsy can lend a helping hand with the gibberish required to make these thing works. *ley*

that's a good idea. i'll take a look into that. but in the meantime, i can always reset the votes. how does that sound. every month or so, reset the votes so everyone gets a freshstart?

Post Re: Voting

Helps a little but still some people will be mass voting. Its not a big deal I guess. Just a thought.

Post Re: Voting

I agree! * One time I looked at the TTs and my sucky @$$ tank was number one with an ungodly amount of votes. No I'm not voting for myself, I thank whoever is, but it sucks in comparison to the others there.

Good Idea. If you can't make it so you can only vote once on a tank, at least reset it every once in a while. But keep all the written reviews. BTW, when you write a review does it count that as a vote?

I sent you a small fresh top tank. When are you going to put it up? ;D

Post Re: Voting

I had the same problem with the Poll's section on a site i made a while back, its quite simple to use.
Ever worked with cookies Arcab? thatsll fix them, .
once they have voted, set a cookie variable (eg. voted="yes" ) and this variable is checked by the script, if the cookie is equal to "no" then the vote is accepted, if hte cookie is equal to "yes" then the vote is denied.
Dont forget to name the cookie sparingly, ie name it votedpg1="yes"
for the first page,
votedpg2="yes"
fir the second page and so on, this way they can vote on a seperate page.
You will aslo have to set the expiration on tehm too, or they will automatically expire in 20 minutes, allowing the user to vote again in 20 minutes (if they do not access the site for 20 mins that is)

Post Re: Voting

Most definitly keep the reviews. I love going through the tanks onceinawhile to look at the tank and read the reviews. It helps me aquascape my tanks to improve the looks. There are some good looking tanks there and some that could improve by following some of the reviews. I think that the reviews are the most important aspect and I wish that more people would submit reviews. Not just saying 'It looks good' and so on but why it looks good and maybe where it could be improved yet.

- I still cant believe that someone actually thought that my tank was not 90G. He thought it was only 2' where in actual fact its 4'. :

Post Re: Voting

whoa! haha. did i reset it the first time? dang that's crazy. would it matter if i removed the ratings and just kept the reviews? the only bad thing would be that the same tank would be at the top all the time. =(

Post Re: Voting

Remove the ratings also. That many votes on one tank are ridiculous?! I would reset rating and average. Just keep the reviews.
