| Shubunkins, hehe, neat name. Anyway, I am in Ohio and when we get moved I want to set up a little pond and I was also wondering about bringing them in. I have read that they do fine outdoors in the winter time. Of course my next question is whether or not to thaw the ice. One place I read said to thaw it and keep a heater in and the other place said that the ice helps keep the pond insulated. I will be using one of those pop up ponds so I can use a heater in there if I need to. Anyway, thanks for sharing and if you could answer those questions I would appreciate it too. Fish, I wouldn't think you would need to bring yours in.

| prettypleco- thanks
fishkabibble/shaunna- The thing is I didnt dig mine deep enough and up here in the northeast we have wicked winters and it freezes solid. You guys wouldnt need to down more south, but if you do get some freeze Id dig it 3 feet deep. As long as there is a hole in the ice for oxygen they can live fine in cold conditions. If you do get a chill then you might need to bring that pop up pond inside.
Yahoo- they are in a 55 which is insanely overstocked and next year the koi wont be able to turn around in it for sure so I need to get a large plastic tub.... I am constantly clearing the waste out of the filter and keeping up on mantainance... if only they could stay out year round... should have dug deeper...
