I disagree. You do want to be prepared for fish growth. Otherwise you may end up with more fish than tank space.

Well, a pleco is rumored to reach 18", but I've never seen one that is 12", and I've been in a bunch of pet stores!! I just say the largest one I've ever seen the other day at about 11", and that was one that was in an 80 gallon tank for 6 years...

If mine grows to a size that is unfit for my tank, I'll give him to a pet store and start over...

he wont grow to that size cause he should be in a 80 gallon tank.... that is why he overstocks your tank... that makes sense to me atleast.

Very nice, a jquery plugin with autocomplete would make it easier to freeform type in species of common name, ala google hints. Also, there is a program called CanIKeepIt see Can I Keep It? which uses the Fishbase catalogue www.fishbase.org

The Fish base catalogue has photos of almost every fish which might be helpful in determining the type of fish.

yhbae,

What is your basic biomass formula? Is it a cubic, quadratic, linear, piecewise, or point (every entry is arbitrary) function? Just curious to see how other people tackle the issue.

MOA
What do you mean "basic biomass formula"? Are you asking what do I use to calculate the final % figure?

Many fish never grow to their full size because they are kept in overcrowded tanks. Also, you can never go by how large those at the pet store are.

Another minor update has been made to the site (Build 2009 09 24).

What's new:
- Reports recommended water temperature for the selected species. If incompatibility is detected, a warning will be displayed.
- Added more Gourami species.
- Added more Corydoras species.
- Added more Tetra species.
- Added more Mbuna species.
- Total number of species in DB has been increased to 227.
- Fixed a bug - After "Remove" button is pressed, % is correctly calculated.

Please try AqAdvisor site and let me know if you have any feedback.
