It looks like the fish prefers the water temp to be not below 72 degrees F.

If you get the 180, would it be possible to convert the 55 to a brackish tank? (That is, if a 55 is suitable for the fish's size?) Just a thought. It's a cool looking fish for sure.

Sure why not, they only grow 7-10'' i believe and they don't exactly look that active so 55G should be okay just for him though. Not sure what you can cram in with him/her because it's an aggressive fish

How to keep your new freshwater lionfish, Batrachus trispinosus, with pictures

Looks like they can't have smaller tank mates As they prefer to wait for prey to swim close enough so they can snatch it.

i think though feeders would be fun to watch with this fish. i love watching my bichir with feeders. he only seems to like the comets though and doesnt like minnows. ive had 1 minnow feeder fish that has lived in there for about a month and a half now and the funny thing is he has been half eaten and smashed against the tank by my bichir (rex as i like to call him since he is also known as a dinosaur bichir) and i thought he was going to die at one time but has now managed to recover and swims with them all. i cant put myself to just kill him though. im hoping one day he will eat the minnow but so far he loves the shrimp pellets i feed him
