The danios may hang out together, but I dont know that I'd call them a real schooling fish as they kind of dance to their own drum and won't always be hanging out together. It seems like the longer finned danios are not quite as nippy. I have never had a nippy blue tetra, so zephelia's story kind of surprised me. I had a school of about 10 of them for a few years and they were really neat, but pretty shy fish...the blues got bigger than danios.

Have you looked at harlequin rasboras? I am really impressed by these little guys.

The Rams will hang towards the bottom. Killifish, depending upon which species might be too aggressive for the Rams.

The strata of fish in the water column is just as important as the number and size of the fish. 12 danios might be too crowded at the top of the tank.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will look into them.

Thanks for the tips! Can you recommend killifish species compatible with rams?

How many danios would you recommend for a 30 gallon tank?

I am not familiar enough with killis to make a suggestion other than some species tend to be aggressive.

Is the tank a 30inch or 36 inch long tank? Danios are fast swimming fish that tend to stay near the top. 6-8 would be the most I would put in a 36 inch tank, less for a 30inch.

A total of 10-12 schooling fish plus the rams and a few otos for algae control would be a full stocking of the tank.
