Default If not a pleco then....

Well...

I have to submit that my common pleco will not be in my long range plans.

He is going to be sent back to a LFS.

BUT BUT BUT...

I want a fish that does just what he does because I just find him SO wicked cool.

What kind of fish that will like my tropical community tank (about 40 gallons) should I consider?

You need to get the tank first

If you want a pleco, then you could get a bristlenose. They stay small, and do a nice job keeping the tank clean of algae. Or you could get a few otos.

I want to have a clear idea of what I am going to do so I donlt buy the wrong tank.

Apparently...I even have to choose what kind of aggregate to go on the bottom and how course it is....

This is alot to take in...kinda fun ... but alot. So I dont wanna buy the big tank just yet.... (although 1 12 gallon will be here Friday) - then I have to cycle it!!!

Otos.. have to look them up...

As a general rule of thumb, buy the biggest tank that you can fit/afford, then decide on stocking. Once you know what size of a tank that you are getting, then you should walk through some fish stores and write down some fish that you like and then do some research on them. Ask on here, and look them up on the internet. Don't ever listen to what the lfs employees tell you because they are trying to sell you fish. Most of them could care less what happens to the fish once they make the sale.

What are you planning on putting in the Eclipse 12? I think the pristella tetras and cory cats would be perfect for it.

Good thinking on the 12. I think those plus maybe the Betta and that will be it.

I just read up on the Oto's. Very cool fish and size wise fot into what I want to do.

NO way will I rely on the LFS people about the fish and tanks...I rec'd wayy too much bad info so far.

Yes, as long as the betta is peaceful he would fit in well. But thats all for that tank, no more fish!

Yea.. The Betta I have is really well behaved. The only fish that caught his ire was the Rainbow shark but they quickly achived a truce (after about 24 hours)

Go with Ottos. They're sweet little creatures and like MANY MANY cleaner fish, they get ignored by the large population of your tank.

Bristlenose plecos are awsome too :] I love my Davey Jones

Zebra Pleco! Or zebra Otto?

Ottos look too plane. What else besides a common pleco?? Are Ottos what they call algae eaters in the store?

How about cory's? Seem to come in tons of colors..

That Zebra Pleco/Otto is pretty!

Cories are adorable, I love their "whiskers".
