New 30g Set-up and Filter I just got a used 30g rectangular tank from a friend with a stand and everything, and I just moved it to my house last night.
Now, I am familiar with tanks with the regular filters and everything, but this one came with a cylinder filter that I'm not really sure how it works or how to maintain it.
The cylinder gets filled with half charcoal and half cotton, and goes underneath the stand, and two tubes go from the filter up to what looks like a powerhead, and an intake tube that goes over the side into the tank also.
Is there any special maintenance for this type of filter?
And what are some ideas for this tank once I get it filtered and cycled?
Also, I am considering sand, but I don't know if that would be a good idea for a 30 gallon, since it wouldn't have an underground filter with sand.
