Post Wine Bottle Decor?

Hello everyone. You've been very helpful before, and I have a sort of unusual question, so I'm here again. I'm planning on decorating my new freshwater tank (46 gallon bowfront) with wine, beer and coke bottles. I would cut the bottoms off and perhaps drill some holes in the sides and arrange them in an interesting sort of way, after sterilizing with boiling water and probably vinegar. I'm also planning on either smoothing the edges of all the cuts or coating in either silicon (aquarium sealant, technically) or hot glue so that there are no sharp edges. So, my questions are, 1) Is there any reason not to decorate this way? I realize that lots of people probably wouldn't like it, but I don't want to use live plants anyway and I can't see that the fish care whether they're swimming around rocks or bottles. I will also include some fake plants for the types of fish that prefer that as cover. 2) Any ideas for something to coat the paper labels with to make them safe to be left on? I like some of them and would like to include them in the decor. Thanks for all your help.

I don't see any reason not to do it for fish health reasons.

I can't think of anything that would be both clear and tank safe to cover the labels with.

Try smearing silicon over the label.

Good idea. That was my vague plan that I came up with after posting, but I wasn't sure. I think it will work though. Thanks for the input.

I like the idea so much that is exactly what I did with a few corona bottles in my tank in a bar.

Aqua-Bar

That's cool. I'll post pictures of mine once I get it up and running. I'm in the midst of bulking up the homemade stand, etc. Glad you're happy with your project. I understand the wish that it was in your bedroom though. I'm trying to talk myself out of having a 55 gallon in the living room AND a 46 gallon bowfront in the bedroom of my 1 bedroom apartment.

I would be happy to post some. How do you embed them in the thread so that they show up like yours do instead of thumbnails that you have to click on?
