Default Can this stand hold my 20g tank?

My buddy gave me his "old" 20 gallon tank and stand along with some other junk. Tank itself has never been used but it's about 6 years old.

All the tank stands I've seen have flat tops, this one just has edges and the middle is empty really as you can see in the pictures below. I was wondering if anyone else has a stand like this and is it capable of handling the 20 gallon weight? Just curious.

Pictures...

The tank is supposed to fit inside the edges. If you put water in your tank while on that stand in that position, you could have a disaster because of the downward pressure on the glass.

You could probably get a couple more pieces of wood to put inside for support, then put a flat piece of board on top of that.

Actually a lot of All-Glass aquariums are designed to only be supported on the edges. Boggles my mind, but that's the way they're made.
My 50 gal is only supported on the edges. In fact from inside the cabinet I can look up at the glass bottom of my tank...

Well I suppose I could test it out by taking the stand and tank outside and filling it up out there. Do you think the stand fail immediately if it was going to fail at all or would it take some time?

I asked my friend and that is the way the local fish shop had sold it to him.

When it's on the stand, is the bottom frame of the tank completely supported on all sides? I can't see in the second pic.

The stands like that with the lip are supposed to have the tank go inside the lip, with the tank resting on the flat part. The lip is basically to cover the bottom inch or so of the tank and hide the trim.

I have a 45 gallon octagon and when the tank is on the stand you can see all the way down to the floor. It is kind of unsettling when I started putting in the substrate, but that is how it was designed. I have a 29 gallon bow on a stand where it is solid. One thing you want to make sure the tank is level.

And to keep it sliding off the stand.

Looks like a premade aquarium stand, i'd be willing to bet it could hold the weight easy.

Default mine will really scare you.

Id be more worried about it tipn . You can probly find a piece of wood tha same color at the lumber yard pre stained . BUT I think that tank sets on tha edges anyway . My 180 gal has the trim like that and its only about an inch n a half wide on the edges even on bottom.

I was worried about my 55g when we got it because the tank only sat on the edges of the stand. Like many of you, you can see the bottom of the tank from under the stand. But it was set up in a LFS before we got it. They were down sizing and going to all 10 and 20 gal tanks so we got a great deal on it. And as it had been set up until just a few days before we got it, we figured we were safe.
