Default Nitrite Spike

I've had a 5 gallon since December. The parameters have always been really good, and I do a 25% water change every week.

I just checked the parameters and I'm having at Nitrite spike. Any ideas of what might be causing it?

Also, I have a Betta in the tank as a showcase fish and he's been acting strangly. He's been sitting on the leaves (it's a live plant tank) with his nose down. Any advice?

well, you provided really good info. especially on the fish behavior. heres some questions.... what color is the betta, is there a filter for the tank, and what plants are inside your tank?

How high have the nitrites spiked? If it's over about 0.5ppm, I'd do a water change, but test the water you're adding, just in case.

Has anything died or disappeared in the tank recently? Did you do any major cleaning or re-aquascaping in the last few days?

Also, you might want to test again, just in case you got a false positive.
