Default I want to add more GBR's

I want to add more GBR's to my 46. They are the best fish. So much personality. I was thinking of adding 3 more. I have the space. I'd like to get another golden one for the one I already have. I believe it's a male so I want to TRY to get a female. If they pair up and breed that's fine but that's not my goal. And then I'd like to get 2 more regular colored gbr's. Should I try to get a pair or 2 of the same sex? (I'm not interested in breeding.) I just wonder if it would be overkill on that many gbr's since they can be kinda "pushy." I guess my question is if there is a limit on how many to a tank (within stocking reasons) since they are territorial?

That would probably be too much. It seems that by bolivians need 10g each.

For a total of 4? Sounds ok to me, especially if they pair up on opposite ends of the tank. But ending up with 3 males, 1 female won't be so good.

ooh I didn't think about that female being up against 3 males. So, I wonder, should I try to go with all males? Or get one more male and 2 females? The reason I'm putting so much thought into it is to keep the aggression down. Seems by what I've read they get most aggressive at breeding time. So that's why I wonder if it would be best to go with all of the same sex.

If it were me i'd either shoot for all females, 2 females 2 males, or 1 male and 3 females. And see how it goes. Your safest bet is probably all females.

I don't know why I didn't think of just getting 3 females. I guess I was thinking males would be more colorful but that's not necessarily the case with gbr's. I now remember reading somewhere to get 2-3 females for every male as they like to be in a harem.
ok thanks! So that's what I'll do. I THINK I already have a male so when I decide to buy I'll TRY to get all females.

I have 2 GBR's in a 40g and one constantly chases the other. I know one is a male, but am not sure about the other. I have a 20g I am setting up now so I can separate them.

I have a female GBR and when her belly gets all pink she's absolutely lovely. And much calmer then the male.

I found a bunch of females at Pet Supermarket so I got 4 of them to see if they would pair with my males. Both males now prance around the tank with their fins up and showing all their colors. The aggression has almost disappeared although the females now are butting heads. I am not sure if any have paired off yet, but one of the males and one of the females have no become buddies and jointly are destroying my cuban baby tears now.
