| Done with Fishkeeping! :'( I am done with fishkeeping, In this past week i have lost 5 fish, I went away for 2 days, came home to a dead Betta and a Dead Platy, I fed them the morning I left. Both were inside my skull ornament with my new small Pleco. (Pleco was eating them) so a day went by and this morning when I woke up, im mission 2 neon tetra and one of my female platys on the bottom being eaten by the Pleco, All i have left is 1 more Platy and the Pleco, I am so upset :'( I'm done fishkeeping, I can't do it. |

| Aw, don' give up. There's obviously a reason for all you fish dieing. How well did you acclimate them? Put the bag in the tank until the temperature is equal, then add 1 cup of water every 10 minutes until water in bag has doubled. I usually more than double it. Follow this very strictly and your fish will always acclimate successfully. I got lazy once and did it too fast and the fish died in a day. If acclimation is not your problem maybe its your water, or even your heater. If your water is too hot your fish will die. So be careful when you acclimate your fish, get your tank water cycling before you put in fish, and make sure the temperature is good.

| I think you need to be patient. You can't throw a ton of fish in water and hope for the best.
Fishkeeping is a science. It takes a lot of trail and error it takes a lot of practice. You can't do things quickly or on impulse they have to be planned out and deliberate. I call my fish tank a Bonzi Tree. I try and remember that's what it is, I have to be patient with it. Every time I haven't been I've regretted it.

| I heard from someone that you shouldn't add more than 3-4 fish to a tank at once.

| Sorry to hear that. We all go through it, we've all faced rough times. I find it most rewarding sticking to it and becoming sucessful after those rough times. Hope you change your mind.

| i just lost around four hundred fish. Ok they were fry , but i know the feeling . It took me weeks to find out what was geting my gouramies , but i found out what it was one place , roughly how to cure it in another , and my local store owner suggested the correct hammer for the nail. Im so happy i didnt give up . I havent lost a single fish in four months except one otocinclus and my fry that my secondary tank wasnt ready for . DON'T GIVE UP. Ive heard of crazy things happening . Water departments have been known to put stuff down their pipes that have reaked havoc on an unsuspecting aquarist makeing a routine water change . Good luck! |
