Default I think I did something stupid

I am moving my tank to a bigger one and I uprooted all the plants and planted them in the new tank and took a few pounds of sand for the new tank also. I stirred up a lot of crap, but the aqua clear usually clears it all up in an hour or so. My ammonia which had previously been at 0 is now at .25.

Does a planted tank ever cycle or are the plants the primary biological filter like live rock is in a salt water tank? Did I just remove my biological filter? How long will it take for the plants to root in the new tank and start growing again, it seems like it takes a few days? It's going to take at least a day for the new tank to reach room temp. I had a small jar of cycle from when a bought the old tank as a kit a few months back. I put that and a small filter bag of ammo chips in the old tank to absorb the ammonia. Will the fish be ok for 2 more days in the tank?

It's just a mini-cycle. Nothing too bad. If you've got some seeded media in there already, you'll be fine.
