| Cool DIY Algae Scrubber Idea! I just did a W/C on my 55 gallon brackish and noticed a lot of yucky algae growth on the corners of my tank, the bottom line near the sand bed, all over the filter intake pipe, power heads, bubble bars, etc. I had an old battery operated Braun Oral B toothbrush I had bought a while ago but didn't like it cos it wasn't as powerful on my teeth as my rechargeable one and voila!! It works underwater, it's gentle and doesn't disrupt anything and scrubs algae off effortlessly! I even ran it over my filter intake screen & cleared out a lot of build-up on that.
Of course, it was relatively new & I only used this one a couple times with toothpaste so it didn't have a lot of toothpaste build-up and I bleached and ran it under hot water for a while to make sure all residue was washed off, but what a great scrubbing tool!!! It gets into small areas and is especially handy for tank corners where the magnetic algae cleaner/scrubber doesn't reach. |

| Good idea! You can get the most out of your other dental hygiene products by reusing your floss. Just save as much as you can, wad it up, and place it into your filter. Viola! Filter floss.
heh
