| Order placed After receiving much information and advise on this forum, I finally got to put in my order yesterday for my new aquarium and supplies.
I ordered the 55 gallon tank, cabinet stand and canopy. Versa lid glass top and 4' strip light. 2 Aqua Clear 50 filters, Visa Therm 250 heater, gravel, Whisper 40 air pump and stones and tubing, cycling chemicals and live bacteria. The usual ormaments etc. Also ordered the Python 50' hose for water filling and changing. API Master Test Kit. There are a few other items as well, but will not bore everyone with the list.
The advise I received on here was very helpful indeed.
The supplies should be here at the end of this next week according to the store owner, but he was not that sure as we have the fourth holiday coming on Friday. I assured him it was no problem, and I can wait another week after that if he had to push me back a little. The store was very nice. Well stocked, clean, and employees were exceptional in their knowledge of the items I inquired about.
I do normally order on line, but I feel by paying just a little bit more or less at the local store, we are assuring that they stay in business and will be there when we need them. Especially the very good, knowledgable ones. |

| Sounds good, and i agree with you about the local stores by paying a little more. Some stuff just isn't worth it to order online anyway with shipping. With shipping it comes out to what the LFS would charge so why not.

| I agree. It's great to help out the LFS, but there are times they don't have what you need. That's when I turn to on-line retailers, like the sponsors of MFT.
Looking forward to seeing how the tank turns out. Keep us updated!

| Sounds like you've got just about everything you need! So what are you gonna put in that tank?

| I would like to put in a couple Angels, Mollies, Swordtails,Danios, Tetras.
I want to make a nice peaceful community tank.
What I like is unusual! Something a little different from the usual "Goldfish". I have them in the pond, and don't need them in the tank.
I will eventually add a Placostumos after the tank can support him with the food he needs.
If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears!!! |

| Just keep in mind when you're setting up your tank that Angels are cichlids and can be very territorial when breeding.
Usually while I know you want to get them in right away, you add the most territorial fish LAST, this makes them feel like they're 'guests' in the other fish's turf so to speak.

| I like the idea of the angels...mollies and swordtails don't really do it for me...I had platies and found them to be kinda boring, but that's just my opinion...angels are graceful and on the larger side and really pretty to look at.
I agree about the goldfish...I've got them in the pond but they come in for the winter...as it's not a "real" pond and it's not deep enough to not completely freeze in a harsh NY winter...

| My pond is one of those 100 gallon ponds that you set into the ground and it has the shelf around edge to set the water plants on. You can buy them at Lowe's Home Imporvements. This one came from a flea market. The guy was tired of it and sold it to my wife for $30.00 pond, pump, hoses and everything. We took it real quick and threw it in the pick-up.
I was told that it being at least 18 to 20" deep that the fish will make it here in Carolina, but I still worry about it a little. If it gets too cold, I will have to move them in.
As for the Angels, they are my favorites. I like the swords and mollies because they are always active and on the move. |

Great deal on that pond!! If I could find a deal like that I'd be so happy!!
