| My 30gallon Well, I finally have my 30 gallon up and running. Please drop anycomments you have, especially on how to improve anything about this tank. Here's what its got:
-1 Bolivian ram
-2 corys. The ram gets along with them quite well and them and the three follow each other around. Since adding the cories to the tank, the rams activeness has risen considerably, which I think is pretty interesting.
-4 female guppies
-1 male guppy. I'll keep the fry in a fry tank and use some as feeders
-1 bamboo shrimp
-1 ghost shrimp, who was an unexpected passenger with the cories. It was pretty small, so maybe it was eaten by the ram. I have yet to see it since putting it in.
-Moneywort
-Frill
-Dwarf hairgrass
-Duckweed
-Biowheel 200. The fish store guy recommended it, but a family member tells me its crap. It seems to do fine for my purposes.
-a 24 watt and 18 watt light.
-Substrate is just small gravel. No flourite, but I use iron supplement. What are your views on that?
-A couple 4" flower pots on their side
Also, as a warning for others, I made the mistake of buying some mondo grass. Its non aquatic, so I potted it until I can return it while I go to the store again in a couple of days.
I may post a picture if I solve my camera issue soon. |

| You can try cleaning the site where the wheel rotates against the filter. I have read a lot of complaints about the filter's noisiness, but made a plastic 'T'-shaped barrier that hangs across the top of the tank, which lessens the turbulence on the surface of the water. This lowers noise and calms the water so the guppies don't tire from the current and duckweed can grow. The turbulence was such a problem because the filter is on the side of the tank, which makes it blow across the whole surface. |

| I have biowheels too, the 200 on my 30 and a 150 on my 10. I LOVE them.
The instructions do say it will spin more irregularly as it gets older.

| Today I united my two rams again, now that the weak one has improved and they are together in a much larger tank. I also added another bamboo shrimp, which was cleaning the 10G tank, and added the other half of my plants, which were in the 10G. Now there is twice as much moneywort and frill, and a few elodeas. I just medicated the tank and the water is very blue, so I will take some pictures when it clears up. |
