Default SuperBac?

I know I belong in the beginer forum... But this seemed like a question that belonged here in the GD.

Does SuperBac work? And what about Stability? I've read that Bio-Spira is discontinued, therfor unavailable unless you are lucky enough to get a (fresh) pack from a supplier...

So, does SuperBac work? I've heard good things about it, but I'm skittish to try these things... I'd really like my tank to cycle quickly, and I've heard that with Stability you just add the fish and the cycle finishes in a week... I just want to know what some older members think...

ANYHOW... I'll go skuttle off to hide in my newbieness *skuttle*

Well, I'm posting on a new name to answer your question because I have no interest in the useless debate that is about to occur below :P And also so I can brag that because I'm a commercial business I can get the SuperBac conentrate ^^

Yes, SuperBac works. I use it on all my new set-ups and spiking systems.

Thanks!

I might have to get some of it. I'm pretty close to possibly getting a 40 gallon. So, if I do... well you know, I want it to cycle quick

Never used it myself. I suppose it will get mixed results. Some people have it work, some will call it snake oil and stick to the tried and true cycling method. I'm not really a fan of what they put on their website though in the way of uses for Superbac. Like using it when you change a filter, clean the tank, after medicating, and whenever ammonia or nitrate imbalance occurs.

Nothing you can't achieve with a good old fashioned water change for the imbalance part. And even after you change a filter or distrub the aquarium, bacteria still lives in it. On the glass, on the substrate....changing a filter is hardly going to do much. In this sense, where they tell you to use it even after cycling the tank i think its snake oil. Could it be a useful tool, such as some people have found Biospira, for a quick cycle? Possibly.

Where did you read that? I can get BioSpira easily here in Htown.

A few different places. The manufacturer site doesn't list it any more. I might be wrong though, but my local LFS doesn't have it. None of them do, all they have is Cycle and Stability (SOMETIMES).

So I understood it as being discontinued o.o

I've heard good things about Stability, although I've never used it.

I go the fishless cycling route every time. If you already have an established tank, you can fishlessly cycle in under a week if you use plenty of filter media and plants from your other tank.
