|  Saltwater to Fresh question Hi guys, this is thinking way ahead but. Later on this year I am hoping to move to a larger house and buy a larger tank from the 150-250 gallon range. Now I plan on buying the tank on craig's list because I see some great deals on there all the time. Question I see huge tanks that use to be saltwater (w/sumps, bio balls etc) How practical would it be to safely turn one of these suckers into a fresh water tank??? I can not have saltwater because I travel too much and would be too much work for my wife so she says.

| It really wouldnt be a hassle at all. Just clean out the tank very well and remove all the residue. You wouldnt want to use bio balls. I used just filter media, like the stuff for the Fluval ect. filters.

| I've done several SW to FW conversions (and vise/versa). Like FishGeek stated. Just clean the tank like you would any used item. Super easy, no need to use the sump/bioballs etc, if you didn't want to. I use bioballs, sponges etc when I want nitrates to build up a bit to supply FW planted tanks to feed the plants. Clean/rinse .. is all there is too it.
