Default clay pots in tank

I bought one for my 10G. I washed it off (no soap) today and tried to put it in the tank. It went to fizzing like crazy! so I pulled it out. Do I need to do more than just rinse it before it goes in the tank? Will it quit fizzing?

I have never put a clay pot in a tank before but from the sound of it I would think it is just tiny air pockets through the clay pot and the air is just kind fizzing out. I have had a similar thing happen with rocks I have added with small cracks or holes in them.

I agree. I belive it is air as well because every single time i put my rocks into my tank(after they have been out for a while)they go crazy. My whole tank is overflowing with air. But it's ok. It won't hurt anyone or do anything bad to your tank. Actually i think it might do some good by adding oxygen to your water. Good luck with the pots. May your fish swim in peace.

ok thanks. I was kinda figuring it to just be air since the pots are porous but I wanted to make sure before I left it in there.

I bought clay pots for my Mom's tank. Since I had read about everyone soaking things, I soaked them in a bucket before putting them in the tank- they did quit fizzing after a while in the bucket. Then I had to take them out to take them over to my Mom's and so they dried out and when I put them in her tank, they fizzed for a few minutes, but not bad.
