| Help please!! fish fungus. hi all. i recently bought a beautiful starlight bristlenose plec at 4-5'' for £4.50. the person in the shop told me she was that much. im sure she's worth more. but now after 1 day. i noticed some stuff (white tufts that look like mould) on her underbelly fins and her mouth sides. (excuse the un-scientific terms). i think it's fungus. she has a bit of fin rot too so i think the shop did not look after her well. i thought she would be ok but it got worse. i have been using melafix for the past week for my cory's fins which are getting better but hers i see no change. the only other treatment i have that claims to heal fungus is methylene blue.
should i leave her in this tank and see how she goes or set up my 12 litre tank and put her in there with methylene blue for a few days? or is there anything else i can do? what will this fungus do? will she die?
Please. i need fast help. im starting to get so worried i think i'll be sick.
thanks.
Dan.

| There's a list of suggested treatments here: Practical Fishkeeping magazine | Treatment Finder
The Interpret Anti Fungus and Finrot seems to most closely match the symptoms you're seeing.
You probably should treat her in the main tank, I think the smaller tank will be too small to keep the water quality up.
Methylene blue can be very harsh, I'd recommend a different antibacterial, if you can find one. |

| It doesn't look too bad, but it should definitely be treated. If the shops are closed tomorrow, do daily water changes and keep treating with Melafix until you can get some other medications. |

| ok. thanks very much. everytime i do a water change. should i add a full dose of melafix? or just 25% dose for a 25% water change?
Thanks lots.
Dan.
EDIT: i forgot to mention something else. her tail fin has now split about 5-6 different times. the splits go all the way down. i think this is associated with the fungus because another guy on here is having the exact same thing with a cory.
Thanks again.

| If I remember right, you're supposed to dose Melafix every day. I'd just make that dosing after the water change. |
