| 55g ideas I finally got rid of my cichlids and CAE and now I am selling my 10 and 29 to help towards the purchase of a 55. So I have pretty much decided I don't want cichlids. I already know I am going to use sand and I was toying with the idea of some kuhli loaches. But I don't know what else. I really want to avoid guppies, I don't need any more guppies, or livebearers for that matter.
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

| Right now I don't have a set size, but I don't really want a bunch of guppy size fish, so maybe like 3 inches or more. But, I am opt to change my mind if I find a species that I really like. I like gourami, but from past experience I have always found myself with aggressive gourami. I have know idea what I want.

| What about one gourami, a couple different schoolers (red eye tetra get to be about 3" I think), and a few cories for clean up?
If my tank was empty right now I would probably build around a red fin shark or a couple clown loaches.

| Look into larger catfish.(not cories, Cories are boring) I am in love with my syno and Striped Rapheal Cat. They are so fascinating. If i get another 29gal Im gonna get SA bumblebee cat and a Spotted Rapheal. Look into Pictus cats too. Man I wish i had the space for one.
Also Pl*cos are a good choice. There are so many choices. I deffinatly suggest Clowns and BNs. Stay smallish and are pretty cool.

| I'm liking the suggestions. I really like clown loaches, but those get a little big, thats why I decided on a little herd of kuhli loaches. I definately want to look into rapheal cats, but I don't know how compatible they are with kuhlis. I also like redfin sharks, but again don't know about their compatiblitly, I believe with those you just want one. I'll do a little research on these fish see what I like.

| like big54bob said. clown plecos and bristlenose plecos are good. they stay nice and small and are soooo cute. especially when small. i love em to bits. look on PlanetCatfish • Welcome! for any ideas on bottom feeders.
as for the khuli and shark compatibility. i think they would be ok.red tailed sharks tend to go for territories and any fish trying to get in them. i have had plecos and cories with a redtailed shark. just dont get a ruby shark. they are lethal.

| The down side with Kuhlis that you will see them only once a week- once a month. Thats how often i see mine.
You should look into Bumble Bee cats. They are actually peaceful.
Here a rule to play with large catfish. If it fits into there mouth, they will give an effort to eat it.

| I also woudl be up for some suggestions on stocking a 55 gallon.
I am in the process of cycling and I have 12 danios in right now we got today - 6 pearl and 6 zebra.
I really like the cories, and would prefer a community tank of fish that are not so tiny and not real big either.
I like busynose, clown pleco, raindbow shark but not sure how compatible, rasbora's are real nice! |
