The plant that I have left in there right now is in horrible shape now after it got covered with brown algae that I have been battling in the tank lately. I think that the fish are helping to clean up some of the algae now and I'm hoping to find a native algae eater soon as well.

I collected a few new plants for the tank but they were pretty nasty so I dont think that I will be adding them. I'm going to look for some nice looking plants in other places later in the week.

I'm going to buy a minnow trap tomorrow and set that up on Wednesday or Thursday and just see what I'm able to catch in that since everything wants to stay out of reach of my dip net. I should be able to catch quite a few more fish using this and I will now only be adding some type of algae eater if I can find one and hopefully some colorful natives. I will post pictures of the fish I'm able to find before I put them back in the lake.

the bible of keeping native fish says: "once the fish start to swim lopsided, its time to put it on the bbq." did you know that sunnies make damn food fries?

good job with the tank. looks like a great idea. i have always been interested in keeping a bass if i ever go fishing again. that is where the above is the rule.

I picked up a minnow trap today and decided to take it out and try it. I caught about 3 dozen minnows that were all the same type of fish and were all too large for my tank. These fish were at least 4 inches long. I'm going to set it up tomorrow in a different spot and leave it for a few hours to see what I end up catching. Here are some pictures of what I was able to catch today. I also caught a salamander with my dip net.

The brown pieces are just dog food that I was using in the trap. There are 24 fish in this batch of them from the first time I pulled the trap out with some fish in it.

Lol its a thing out of the water with legs and no I threw everything back that I caught today. I saw the "newt" and figured I would scoop him up with my net so I could take some pictures of it and check it out but I wasn't going to keep it.

I haven't updated this in a week or so and I figured I should do an update. I have added a new fish which is some type of darter, I believe it is a johnny darter but I'm not 100% sure. I have also lost a couple of fish but they weren't doing that well in my tank from the time that I got them. Right now I have 2 of the sunfish, the darter, a minnow, and the cray. I also rearranged the tank quite a bit today so it is easier to clean and I will be able to see the fish more. I will be hopefully adding some plants to the tank soon, the ones I had got covered with stuff when I was away and unable to take care of my tank and they just never recovered. Here are some pictures.

Here are some pictures of the new darter

Here is my newly rearranged tank in a FTS

Here is the crays new hiding place

DINNER TIME!!!!

And finally the first fish I ever named. This is spot my baby sunfish. I was worried about this fish because of the black spot on him but this is the first fish I caught and seems to be the healthiest and most active in the tank so hopefully its nothing major

I have had fish randomly disappearing from my tank overnight and figured it had to be the cray getting them at night. Today I took the cray to a friend that had a 10g tank that he put him in.

I was reading somewhere online that you can find madtoms or other catfish in pop cans that have been thrown in the water. So I was searching for fish all over the lake here in town today and I wasn't finding anything at all and then saw a can in the water so I figured why not check it out. I fished the can out of the water and dumped it out and nothing came out but then I heard something splashing around in the can and finally got the fish to come out and it was a young catfish. I believe that the fish is a young yellow bullhead.

This is a bad picture of the catfish but its really the best I have right now.

Here it is poking it head out of one of the crays caves waiting for flakes to fall down to him.
