You can use your hand to wipe them off, or just wait. They go away in a day or so.

You should take the anubias out of it's pot. The cotton that they use in those pots will start to rot, on top of that they are loaded with all kinds of super ferts that can cause an algae bloom if too many of them are left in the tank.

Looks really good so far. I'm jealous of that tank!! MMM acrylic goodness.

What kind of substrate is that? Black dirt?

It's Eco-Complete for Planted Aquariums. Great stuff.

I'll take the anubias out as soon as I get home. The Crypts also came out of a pot, and there's a significant amount of cotton around the roots - I didn't want to damage the roots before asking advice on what to do. I'm assuming I should pull them apart and get the cotton out of there, too?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm hoping to do some parameter testing and start the cycle tonight...and get some better pictures. I'll keep you posted

Since you already have plants in the tank, the cycle should go quickly.

I'm anticipating the same. Plus, if they're still alive, the eco-complete comes with heterotrophic bacteria in it.

It used to be in my signature, but I thought that was a tad obnoxious...

Anyway, I'm planning on:
3 Boesemani (or other) Rainbows
9-12 Rummynose Tetras
2 Keyhole Cichlids
2 German Blue Rams
3 Zebra Loaches
1 SAE
1 Rubbernose Pleco

And then, someday (even if I have to adjust some of the other stocking)...

1 L-134 Leopard Frog Pleco

Is Eco-Complete your only substrate or do you mix it with regular gravel? If it's your only substrate, 'cus it looks like dirt, does that prevent you from getting certain fish that feed off the floor?
