The stuff for a dollar was a rare sale that Petco has. I asked them when the next sale like that was and they said it would not happen anytime soon.

Sales like that really stick in your head though, and if I'm in the neighborhood, I always stop in (sometimes buying stuff I wouldn't have had I not stopped). It's a pretty clever marketing strategy that has worked pretty well on me.

Wow. If that had been me I would have been freaking out. I'm already stressed out about my move to college in about 10 months from now and its only 350 miles away and I only have 14 fish! However, after reading your post, I'm a little less worried, and hopefully, my trip will go as smoothly as your went.

after reading this, I have no doubts about my 150 mile drive back down to school with my semi-new 10 gallon. I think next summer Ill invest in a 25 or 30 gallon, anybody got some suggestions to where to buy 20-30 gallon tank for cheap? (college kid--go figure).

For cheap tanks, look at garage sales, craigslist, freecycle and your local freebie ads. You can also check fish stores if they have a community noticeboard or see if there's a local fish club that has auctions of used equipment. I've gotten more than 15 tanks for free, just by making the right contacts
