Post Re: anyone with bala shark experience?

i do not own a test kit for nitrates. but i have 0 ammonia levels. I do 25% water changes once a week. I will have to test for nitrite levels again.  I have not done that in a while.

Post anyone with bala shark experience?

hello everyone---

thought i would pick your brains a bit.
I have been trying to keep bala sharks but have not had much luck with them. I originally bought two. one ended up with a swollen red spot at the base of his tail and treatment didn't help. then the second one ended up with  a red spot on the underside between the bottom two fins and the anal fin.  neither shark made it unfortunatly. now I have two more and one is showing signs of the same sickness. what is casuing it. all other fish in the tank are doing great. what is this and what are common reasons for it happening?

Post Re: anyone with bala shark experience?

I'm certainly no expert with fishes, but MAYBE its sum sort of external bacterial infection... I used to have tiger barbs that had similar symptoms, and occasionally, I saved a few by doing frequent water changes.

also, have you tested your water for ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites?

again, these are just guesses.. maybe someone with more experience in fishkeeping could jump in here.

What size is your tank?  And how big are the bala's when you get them?  They can get very large.  I've seen some that are over a foot long!
