Post Sharks & Puffer Fish

???

Does someone know anything about Tri-Color Shark? I have been looking for more info but I cannot find anything. When I saw Bala Shark photo, it looks almost the same, but mine seem to be thinner and much longer. Colors and overall shape look the same... Are they the same or there are two different kinds of tropical fish?

Also does anyone have any experience with keeping them with Green Pufferfish? I read somewhere that there are fine as tankmates, but hope someone had a personal experience.

Thanks in advance for help!

Tri-color sharks is a common name for Bala shark, the same thing.
Puffers do best in water with added salt(brackish) I am not sure what balas would be like in a salty envirement.

Puffer can be aggresive, and Balas are very timid and nervous. They also perfer schools although mine were happy in a pack of 4.

What size tank are you looking to put these in? Eventually the balas will get big, and my 55 gallon was way too small, so I had to sell them.

Hey,

Thanks for the info! I thought it was Bala Shark. I have 4 of them since I knew they like to be in a group. The Puffers I have are Green and they prefer freshwater over brackish (at least that's what I was told at the store). Any suggestions what else I could add to the tank. I have large tank so I know I could have a few more interesting species.

Green puffers are very agressive fish. I had one in my 29 gallon with an oscar and he killed it! Yes the little puffer killed by oscar. Fishy how big is your tank?

My tank is 60 gallons... I know that Puffers are very aggressive, but so far they have not touched any of the sharks. Bala Shark is very fast and Puffers do not swim as fast so they would not even try it. That's just what I heard...

Like I stated and every book I have refereed to says that Puffers perfer a brackish envirnment. Your store, which they usually are, is not correct.

A 60 gallon Tank is not very big. Like I said, your Sharks will outgrow that tank. It is fine if they are small, but you will get tired of them freakin out, slamming into the glass, jumping out of the tank while doing water changes.

BTW is your tank even cycled?

Post Re: Sharks & Puffer Fish

the tetraodon nigrifilis can be kept in fw tanks as juveniles but will require brackish conditions as they mature. They grow to aprox. 10cm in an aquarium,17cm in the wild. I have 2 puffers and they are amazing, they are both aprox. 7 cm. I don't reccomend putting them with a bala shark though even if he is fast. If they get ahold of him...it could be over for the bala.
