| edit in answer 5:
"out come" -> "outcome"
edit in last question:
"Is sand be mixed with gravel" -> "Can sand be mixed with gravel"
Also, it's really funny how we deal with this kind of stuff every day, but never really observe it... I could swear that larger things eventually settle to the top in a different particle size mixture. Can anyone confirm that?

| On the first question, you might want to say something about whether marine sand is safe, and that reptile sand definitely isn't. I read on another board that someone uses sand from the concrete section as it is larger grained than play sand and doesn't compact as easily. |

| I dont know of this applies to FW, but in SW tanks sometimes sand gets on the rock. If you have decorations or something like that in a FW tank, a great way to blow sand off is to use a turkey baster!
And also be careful when scrubbing you tank (if you do that) so stand doesn't get stuck and scratch the surface. |

| how about-
"can i use a HOB filter with sand?"
yes and no. since the water will first be routed through the impeller of a HOB filter there is a greater chance for filter-failure if sand should happen to get sucked up in the intake.
however, by fitting a piece of sponge over the intake pipe you can all but eliminate this problem.
just a quick idea, you can add it if you like.......if you choose not too though you wont hurt my feelings ...lol.

| M, thats a great idea, I am having that problem right now in 55g i geuss my cichilds are always digging and playing they stir sand up from time to time.
What kind of sponge should you use? Just like th one you use to wash dishes or you car? But cut it down thinner to wrap around the intake?
