Post Aqaurium Light?

Is it okay to have light on 24/7 with your aquarium. Even though it evaporates the water in the tank more rapidly.

i wouldn't suggest it. since even fish need some period of darkness. just like us.also, if you have plants, plants require those hours of darkness. besides, having it on 24/7 evaporates your water quicker. so that means more water changes. hehe.

keeping your light on 24/7 will stress your fish out and dull their colors. Also you may kill them by stressing them our so much. I would suggest turning it off at nights when your asleep.

Easy thing to do is get a timer. Put in on for no more than 12 hours. I usually set mine to go off when I usually goto bed so when I home I can always see my fish.

If you are going to use a timer set it to come on for 3 hours, then off for 2 hours then back on for 7 hours, the plants will photosynthesise but the algae seems to have problems with the break in light intensity. 8)

Post Re: Aqaurium Light?

Say what cloth??

Please tell me more of the light setting you suggest and how it helps prevent algae. What kind of algae? I dont mind the greens on the rocks, glass, its the black hair algae on the plants which I avoid.
Thanks

Post Re: Aqaurium Light?

It is a very srange thing, but the algae seems to need about 5 hours to start growing, the break in the lighting seems to stop the reproduction cycle from taking place. 8)
