Post Cycle update/Nitites Finally show up

May 15, 2001- setup filter and heater, Temp 84

May 16, 2001- PH 7.6 added 30 drops of ammonia, test for ammonia at 0ppm

May17, 2001- added 30 drops of ammonia, 12 tsp of bacteria starter, ammonia at 0ppm

May18, 2001- added two capfuls of ammonia, ammonia at 7.0ppm

May19, 2001- cut back ammonia to 30 drops, Ammonia at 6.0 ppm, no nitrites yet.

May20, 2001-added 30 drops ammonia, tested at 6.0ppm , no nitrites

May21, 2001-added 30 drops ammonia, tested at6.0ppm, no nitrites

May22, 2001-added 20 drops ammonia, tested at 6.0ppm, no nitrites

May23, 2001- added 25drops ammonia, testaed at6.0ppm, no nitrites,10tsp of starter

May24, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrites, added 2 rocks

May25, 2001-added 25drops ammonia, no nitrites

May26, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrites

May27, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrites

May28, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrites

May29, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrites, ammonia still at 6.0ppm

May30, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrites

May31, 2001-added 25 drops ammonia, no nitrite KH-8, GH-7

June1, 2001-added 20 drops ammonia, no nitrite

June2, 2001- added 20 drops ammonia , no nitrites

June3,2001-added 20 drops

June4, 2001-added 20 drops

June5,2001-added 20 drops

June6,2001-added 20 drops , no nitrites

June7, 2001-Added 20 drops , no nitrites

June8,2001-Added 25 drops, Finally Nitrite detected at 0.25, remember no established media

I would keep the ammonia dose the same until the nitite spikes, then half the ammonia.

Right on! Patience is the key! Now you have to wait for the nitrite to come down! Nitrites take longer than ammonia actually because of the bacteria reproduction rate of only 24-36 hours unlike ammonia bacteria which is a couple hours. Dont worry!! It will get much more frustrating waiting for the nitrites to come down. A word of advice and experience, there is such a thing as "too" much ammonia and nitrites! It happened to my 90G. The nitrites would not come down. Nitrates were off the scale for a long time already but still nitrites did not come down. So after 3 weeks, I did a water change and the next day nitrites came down into readable numbers and then proceed down to 0 where it has now stayed. Just a thing to remember. Good luck.
