| my top fin 10 filter has been overflowing since last night. I didn't know what to do so I just slid the filter cartridge up a little bit. It seems to be flowing better now but I wasn't sure if this was good.... especially since I am cycling fish in right now. Thanks. |

| your filter is overflowing probably because it is clogged and has a whole bunch of junk caught up in it. it may be able to be just rinsed off or you may need to replace it but until you do one or the other it is going to get worse and worse. when is the last time you replaced the filter cartridge?

| ya sounds like a gunked up filter. what ever you do dont rinse or wash with tap water ! it will kill the good bacteria you have on it when you do a water change rinse your filter in it. then add new ( dechlorinated water, this is most important ) and if your cycling with fish are you testing water daily ?

| the filter cartridge is 3 days old. Maybe I need to clean the part that sucks up the water from the tank. Should I use tank water when cleaning the plastic parts also? I have been testing waters daily for ph and ammonia but not nitrite and nitrate (are these present this early in cycling?) |

| I always tested for nitrite and nitrate during cycling. That way I knew where everything was at every week.
