The 8 gallon biocube I've been running for like a month or two has been working great with few problems until yesterday. For no reason one of the lights (my 10,000k) stopped working, it wouldn't turn on so today I unscrewed the hood and discovered that the bulb itself is fine but the socket, or ballast(?) isn't working. As in if you were to flip the on/off switch nothing would happen, just dead. So I moved the 10,000 to the working one to so I have one of two lights running.
I'm going to phone the company tomorrow to see what they say but I still don't know what exactly is wrong with it. I'm no electrician and I'm definitely not comfortable with messing with all the wiring and whatnot so I'm not sure what to do
For now I think my aquarium will be okay with just the main light running but I really would like to have the other one working. help me guys lol

So I was cleaning my tank and moved around some sand, it got into the intake of the filter, made some noise and stopped! I quickly unplugged it, took all the media out and tried to clean the area where the impeller sits, I put it back together and it works, but is still noisy and I needed to prime it to start. It is about a month old! Any ideas on how to clean it better

What is this in my filter - pics

Ok so i mentioned this in my last thread .. i'll try explain as best i can.

in my fluval 2+ which i got givin to me with the tank, not sure how old it is etc.. the filter clogs up an awful lot so every few days or so im having to take the media out and rinse it off in a bit of tank water.

in between both the sponges.. there are 2 thinner pads that you can see from the pics.. 1 is brown/black and the other is grey, but i think it may have been white at first as you can sorta see from the pics..

is this the carbon pad and something else??
they have always been stuck together in between the sponges.
in the 2nd pic thats how they sit in betwee.. do they both need to be there??

could this be the reason why my filters keeps clogging up and slowing down?

i have a new 3+ in there now running alongside it until it gets up to scratch. once thats cycled i think i'll get new sponges etc. for the 2+ and have it running aswell, but im not sure what needs to be in between the 2 normal sponge pads..

in my 3+ there are 2 large white sponges, and then a white polyester pad that it said to put in for 2 weeks then throw away. i've also a carbon pad to put in after that and it says throw it away after a week.

are these extra pads need in the middle of the 2 standards sponges?? how does every1 elses filters work? after they are done should i buy new polyester and carbon sponges for in between the 2 large sponges??
