Silver Dollars and Plants

Is there any plant that can survive 2 silver dollars? They're about 2-3 years old and I'm suspicious they may not have great eyesight if that even matters.

Problem is that I was setting up my 29g tank to house just tetras, cories, platies, and a gourami and was prepping it for plants by mixing in Eco Complete Planted Aquarium Substrate. The silver dollars were living in another aquarium but I had to move them back to the 29g.

Right now the aquarium is hosting 3 red wag platies, 4 serpae tetras, 1 dwarf gourami and the 2 silver dollars.

I was told that it could potentially be very bad for the fish if there were no plants in there while using that particular substrate, and now I'm concerned, since I'm afraid that the silver dollars will eat any plant I add, and the silver dollars have no where else to go and the substrate is already in there and mixed with my original substrate. I'm kind of stuck in a "what now?" position.

Any advice welcome!

Would 2x54w T5HO be adequate lighting for a 75 gallon tank without CO2?

I've read tons of posts, but can't seem to find an answer. I'm concerned that 2 T5 bulbs would be too much light and result in algae. I plan on adding pressurized CO2, but not for another 6 months or so.

I don't plan on keeping any fancy plants, mainly crypts, ferns, vals and hygro.

Thanks for any comments.

Is it possible to bend these reflectors outward in order to increase the light spread?

I picked up a 72g bowfront and am now finally getting everything ready to set it up and get it going, but i have a few questions. I am going to be aquascaping it with some driftwood to add in it.

Here are my qusetions:

1. I plan on having a grass plant on the tank bottom. Like this tank here:
http://truthinart.files.wordpress.co...amanotank1.jpg

Now i know on my old aquarium when i would do a water change i would syphon the gravel and such but when i have a grass type plant how do i go about doing that since i wont be able to get down to the gravel and trying would probably reck the plant?

2. How many of you use a UV seteralizer? I have been told it makes the water more clear and kills micro organizmes and bateria in the tank. What are your thoughts on this? also what is a good one to gowith for my 72g. Im using a ehiem filter so i would probably want to go with a inline one.

3. Since i am using a canister filter i thought about a inline heater also so i could get rid the intank one i currently have. How efficient are these? Would a 300watt be sufficient or would i still need a in tank to? This is the one i was looking at: ETH 300 In-Line Heater 300W f/16mm-5/8"Hose

4. As far as ehiem filter media goes do i really need anything? My first plan was to just use the sponges and then just a bunch of aquarium flawss. Is that ok? i see these bio balls, carbon, etc that you can get but am woundering if there are really needed.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey everyone,

I've decide to plant my 10 gal. I'll be running:

eco-complete substrate
seachem root tabs
DIY CO2 with one 2 liter reactor.
Diffusion with limewood.
4.8 wpg lighting (T-5)
HO fixture with reflectors.
Full Flourish line dosing throughout each week (with one day of no dosing)
IE dosing strategy
Eheim Ecco filter
Heater

Now firstly, someone might say to stay away from the IE strategy. It fits my budget, and i would really like to stay with this.

I need some suggestions as to what kind of background plant i could use in that kind of lighting, that would stay medium in height, and wont grow as tall as some hairgrass does.

Some grassy looking plant like this: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.u...an_iwagumi.jpg

I have already decided to use HC for my foreground carpet. Now i only need one more type of plant that looks like the grassy one in that work of Peter Kirwan.

I was thinking LILAEOPSIS BRASILIENSIS. But i hear this will not grow tall if grown in very bright light (such as the 4.8 wpg) Instead sources are suggesting it will grow horizontally more than vertically.

Any help with the plant decisions or any suggestions in general will be appreciated. :)
