Hi there

I've got a 240litre coldwater tank with 5 fish currently in it. I don't have the stuff to do the testing but I took it to the local petshop and they tested it a week ago. Everything was fine except PH up a bit.

There are 2 common goldfish- one orange on yellow, a blue oranda, a red and white oranda and a comet.

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a lump on the side of the orange goldfish. The scale was missing on the top of it. Swimming around fine. The tank had been set up about 4 weeks but the fish had only moved in a fortnight before. They used to be in 2 smaller tanks- to be honest it's a wonder they were all still alive as it was only when I moved them into a bigger tank that I realised I really didn't know what I was doing.

They're currently on a tea tree oil based anti-bacterial (on day 4)- the lump's not gone. About a forthight ago our Black Moor died- he wasn't moving much, it looked like it was hard for him to swim and his eyes seemed swollen and red. As soon as we got him out of the water he died- no fight in him at all.

Klauss- the orange gold fish is still swimming round ok- seems fine. The other day though, I gave them flakes and there were half chewed flakes all over the place- it looked like they were coming out (and I mean a LOT of them) of Klauss's mouth (it sort of looked like they were oozing out of his gills aswell)- oh Im treating the whole tank by the way as I figured if he's got it they all will- and some have scales missing.

I've been very sparing with food.

Klauss and Muddy (the blue Oranda) are now pooing out thin white strands almost contantly (the tank was full of white whispy bits the other day). Also Muddy passed a spirally gooey long thing the other day- I'm wondering if it was a worm of some sort.

Really worried about them. I change 25% of the water weekly and there's 2 filters in there. A small one we got with the tank. I don't know how powerful it is but I realised it wasn't big enough so I introduced a 250 litre/hour one which went in co-incedentally the day before the white whispy things appeared. They nibble at a ferny type plant which seems to have white fuzz on it- like chewed up plant fibres.

I know this post is long- but as you can see lots of problems.

Please help- I'm really worried about them

I have a fancy goldfish who has quite a spongy head who is the only one suffering from white spot and it has been going on for weeks.

The tank is clean and water is great quality, all the fish are active and healthy and seem happy even the one who is infected.

I have been using a medicine which is blue and stains everything in sight!

The white spot is only on his head no where else on his body and the rest of him is very healthy looking, no blood streaks or problems with fins, gills etc.

I just don't know what to do to get rid of this though? the other day he had a huge swelling on the side of his head which came up within a few hours and went down v quickly too which was v red underneath but whitish on top this was the size of a pea, that went but he still gets the smaller bits of white.

I'm sure it's not a fungus or anything as it goes and pops up in a different place and is usually no bigger that a couple of mm apart from that one time where it looked like his head was going to pop.

I love my fancy silver goldfish he is really beautiful just want to make sure they are all healthy and happy fishies.

please help.....

p.s was going to say it doesn't really look the same as pics i have seen when i have googled white spot so anyone got any ideas of what else it could be?? am i treating the wrong thing with the wrong medicine? i did give a dose of internal parasite treatment just incase (not at same time as white spot treatment) but that did nothing either.

so probably about three times now i've had fish die on me within a week or two of being put in the tank. when it first started happening, i just had goldfish. it had a fungus so i treated it and it went away, then a few days later my fishes died. when that fish died, i cleaned and sterilized the tank and went and bought some new fish. i got more goldfish that time. they died within two weeks of being put in the tank. i then cleaned and sterilized everything in the tank this time, filter, gravel, plants, tank, everything. i put new fish in this time, now tropical fish, and they are slowly dying off one by one. any idea's on why this might be happening?

Good evening all and a thank you in advance. I'd read other threads but wasn't completely sure.
the tank:
6gallon eclipse (been running for about 3 months now)
4 female guppies
2 cory cats
a piece of driftwood with anubias
3 strands anacharis

i started the tank with water from an outside clean pond and biozyne (sp)
my female guppies have been in the tank for 3 weeks. they were doing fine until a week ago eating, cohabitating.

guppy #1 stays alone either by the heater near the surface, the bottom, or in the flow of water. Also she has white stringy poop. i figured it would be an internal parasite from all the other threads and resources i have read.

guppy #2 is bullying the other two. she "headbutts" and tail swipes #3 and #4 and then proceeds to chase them all over the tank. this started occuring the same time #1 started having the poop issues.

guppy #3 is being fin nipped to the point of the tail fin being shredded and partially missing. instead of the tail looking like a big round circle...it's now got almost 1/4 of it gone, but still swimming fine.

guppy #4 has no problems.
cory cats no problem.

my water chem is 0ppm ammonia, nitrates, nitrites
4 days ago i started feeding the fish antiparasite medicated food, but #1 is not eating it. I've also started them on Lifeguard (all in one treatment) 2 days ago because #1 isn't eating.

any suggestions, tips, and pointers is greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

I have been looking through the disease websites listed and a few others but have yet to find the correct disease to my problem. Two fish died today...

I have been looking through the disease websites listed and a few others but have yet to find the correct disease to my problem. Two fish died today and that makes me worry about the rest as one of them had zero signs of disease but the other one was ready to die, loss of apatite. The disease is making my Mollies unable to swim correctly. their back fins are sometimes lopsided but not very often, they are however forcefully using the plants and ornamentation to stay still as they can no longer fight the current on their own. They do come up to eat though and then go back down to their spots. one got better for a few days and see,s to be doing fine now, just hides whenever i come near the tank now.

This is however not affecting any of the other fish in the same way. The guppies, danios, platies in the tank can all swim fine. they do sit at the bottom most of the day though, I blame the very drastic temperature changes in Texas right now, 50 one day 90s the next, tank is going crazy in temperature no matter what I try. Heater cant keep up I guess.

According to the symptoms it is NOT swim bladder disease.

Tank
25 gallon, two months (almost 3), 3 danios, 3 platies, 4 guppies, 2 mollies (1 lyretail) both diseased.
Temperature 77 Degrees
NO3 >20
NO2 >0.5
GH >25 (Hardness)
Chlorine 0
KH <300
pH <8.4
Ammonia >0.2

Fish experts only: Are my neon tetras ok or do they have a parasite?

Both of them have something tiny sticking out from their lip. I think the bottom part of their lip. I don't know if it's a parasite like a worm, etc....

Both of them have something tiny sticking out from their lip. I think the bottom part of their lip. I don't know if it's a parasite like a worm, etc. or if that's just the way it is. I took them to a pet store and showed them to a pet store guy and he said they both look like they got beat up.

I haven't noticed any aggressive fish in my tank. The back of the CopperSafe package I have shows the signs of parasites are that the fish would have extra mucous, visible spots or worms, rapid breathing, flashing and scratching or rubbing on rocks. They don't have extra mucous, rapid breathing, and they aren't flashing and rubbing or scratching on rocks.

Two days ago one of them scratched itself on a rock twice, but I haven't seen it scratching itself any more. Years ago I had some platties and one scratched itself on something and I asked a pet store lady about it and she said it was just a scratch. It didn't have any signs of ick or other disease on it. It turned out she was right because nothing happened to that platty.

Another sign of scratching is that the tank needs a water change. I know that from experience. Anyway, I do a weekly water change and my temperature is ok. I change 3.5 gallons. My tank is 15 gallons, but holds 12 gallons. I have many fish so, I change that much. That is not too much water I change, because I can see that.

I remember years ago another platty, a baby, had something on the bottom of its lip and I treated it and it was gone from the fish.

What are other signs I should look for so I know whether I should treat them or not. Also is there any medicine that I can put in that won't harm snails or small fish for parasites like worms, etc. and eye cloud, instead of using CopperSafe for the parasites? I have snails and CopperSafe kills snails. I also have small fish and had a few baby fish born in my tank yesterday.

The reason I am talking about eye cloud is because I read on the internet about it, and it seems like one of the neons has it a little bit. The site said to change the water and it will clear up. If not treat it. I took out a gallon of water yesterday and added some water in, and if I am right, the neon which has a little bit of eye cloud has less now.

I know CoppeSafe can be used for parasites and Maracyn-Two, Tetracycline, TriSulfa
and Maracyn-Plus can be used for eye cloud and they can be used with CopperSafe.

I would like suggestions.
