The owner of our LFS and a few others from our area went to the MACNA this past week end. I had asked him to pick me up a few Recordias if he saw any, he found a vendor there that he said had a few hundred. He picked me up four of them, two green and two orange. I really like these corals and plan on getting 10 or 15 more of them. I found a web site that sells them, they are in Florida, and they seem to have really good prices. I have them in a tub in the tank trying to get them to attach to some live rock pieces. I will try and get some pics after I get them glued to the live rock in the tank. TRe, did you get to go to the MACNA, I know you live in Florida?

Do you have a filter? If not, get one. Buy a box of replacement filters too, because they dont last more than a couple weeks.
Get a scrub brush on a handle so you can clean the algae that will grow on the sides of the tank. (Getting some ****** fish helps too; they will eat some of it and keep your tank fairly clean.)
Every 6 months or so, you should probably drain about half the tank and replace it with fresh water. Take all the rocks and fake plants out and clean them separately. (NO bleach or harsh cleaners though. If you dont get it all off by accident it could kill all your fish.)

Recently my powerheads both broke and I now have a new aquarium setup. I have a 46 Gallon Bowfront with the rocks all the way at the back placed in the center going up to about half of the aquarium. I was wondering how many and which brand of powerheads I should go with and where they should be placed. It is a reef aquarium.

Where to begin... Ok so I have a 40 gallon breeder proper filtration live sand heater proper size. The tank has been runing for I want to say about 6-8 weeks. About 2 weeks ago I bought 2 damsles. They were doing good the whole time so I then bought 2 clownfish. One of them died :(. In between I've bought a star fish and maybe 6 hermits the star and 4 hermits died... So I assume it's not fully cycled in getting my water tested hopefully tomorrow. So now it is just the clown and 2 crabs. The guy at my Lfs said that I won't be able to buy a new clown why Is this. ( Ik about clowns choseing there gender so don't explain that to me. And the clown weren't a mated pair. And I put sea weed in the tank as a little treat and u was not aware it prety much fell apart and it's ALL over my tank. Will it go away or will I have to pick out every little single piece of seaweed. And my clown fish changes from orange to pink sometimes is this a sign of beign stressed?

There's more sorry...

On to protien skimmers.
I do not have one I heard it is possable to run a stable tank without it but it makes it easier. What more effort will I have to put in to do this?.

And would it be possable to get a yellow tang in a 40 gallon? My mom realy loves them. By the way i'm 15.

Hello there I have read a number of threads on here and have been considering for quite some time of moving from freshwater fish to a reef set up. I'm quite interested in setting my own tank up but have seen a nice 5ft and 6ft set up on eBay. I was wondering how much of the existing water I would need to transport back with me for such a large tank. I know it would be a very stressful move for the fish and anything else living in the take. Could it all survive on a major water change. The plus side is I can get a fairly large tank for a fraction of the price one has a home made sump with it aswell so would save alot of time effort and money setting it all up myself.
Just wondered what everones thoughts were on this issue before attempting such a big move!!!

I initially had a 90 gallon freshwater tank. However, yesterday I converted it into a saltwater tank. Here is a list of all my current equipment:

90 gallon all glass tank

Eheim 2217 canister filter

SeaClone Protein Skimmer

Aqueon heater

Ocean Direct Caribbean Live Sand

Hydrometer

I filled the tank with "treated" tap water yesterday using Tetra AquaSafe Water Conditioner. This morning when I check the tank the water is still a bit cloudy, but much clearer than last night. The salinity is currently at 1.024
Question, what is it that I can change/add to this setup before I add any fish to the tank.

okay, I am upgrading from my 12 gallon nano cube, which you will probably find for sale here or on craigslist or something for around 100 bucks in a few months, tops. I will probably upgrade to the 28 gallon CF quad. I was wondering if it is possible to add a sump to it, since I would like the great filtration and extra gallonage. I was thinking it would be easier than on other models, because the filtration in the back is uncovered. thanks in advance for any response! :D

I thought it was cause i just bought them within a month or two and my tank was fairly hot (85 degrees at times). No idea how long e has been there but he was at least friendly to my fish.... for the time being. Since I have gotten rid of him. I'd say he was almost an inch across.

I have a 29 gal which i just bought and recently moved my old 20 gal long reef into it. I have 2 penguin hob filters for top flow, hydor koralia nano, and a maxi jet 400 power head in the tank itself. i drilled the tank and diy'd an overflow out of 1" pvc, and have a maxijet 1200 as a return. visitherm stealth 50watt and another 25 watt heaters. for lighting i have 2 dual bulb coralife 30" t5s 18 watt bulbs 72 watts .i do water changes once a month, stocking is about 30 lbs live rock 20 or so lbs live sand some playsand in the sump? a velvet damsel and a percula clown, not sure if its true or false, various hermits some have orange legs some have blue legs about 7 altogether, a turbo snail,a emerald green crab last i saw a porcelain crab and tons of other tiny snails and a bunch other unknown critters. for corals i have a like 5 different types of mushrooms and 2 different zoanths. for my first question they all seem to be splitting good except for one of the zoanths been in there for a year and still 7 polyps, is there something i am doing wrong? i want to move the clown and damsel out is there a link on which inverts are good together? Should i add another powerhead to my tank or do i have sufficient flow? what is a good lighting for a sump/refuge? what kinds of plants besides chaeto are easy kept? i have been fragging some shrooms and just sandwiching them between rocks is there a better way? how complicating is it to install the kits for lighting? would you guys do something different. i am just trying to make the reef the best i can and really need alot of help I do understand alot of stuff but some stuff there are so many opinions on. I apreciate your help.
