Right, so I finally got around to mucking out the 45gal yesterday. Four hours later, we have a nice, clean tank with happy fish in it. *BOUNCINGS Now comes the problem. I went to feed the girls last night and realized that a couple of the decorations had been misplaced when I refilled the tank. I need to fix them and re-route the airline for the bubbler I put in, but here's the thing...I have VERY friendly female bettas. If anyone even just walks by my tank, they are right up there at the front saying "HI!" The last time I tried to adjust any decorations in the tank, I was bitten/nibbled on the whole time. It didn't exactly hurt, but it was rather annoying. So, short of extracting the girls from the tank (not a difficult process since they pretty much swim into the net on their own :p, but I'd just rather not have to do that because it's a major PITA), how can I go about adjusting stuff in my tank without getting the crap nibbled out of my arm?

Female Betta and Guppy Fry?

Okay, so, my mother gave me a female Betta fish recently *PEACE!*
She was under the impression that they didn't need a tank...just a small bowl (such as one a little bigger than they come in)
Instead of killing the poor fish that way, I thought I could put her in a bigger tank
One problem: my mother doesn't want Jasmine in her tank (community with guppies, tetras, pleco, and a platy) and my father sure as hell doesn't want her in his tank (cichlid, crawfish, minnows, baby perch, pleco)
I'm not allowed to get another tank: I simply have no room for another tank. So, could I put her in a one gallon with my six 1 month old guppy fry and single baby crawfish? (Yes, I know that a one gallon is wayy too small, but when they older and bigger, I'm going to place them in my mother's tank.)
Would she eat the fry and would the crawfish hurt her?
I still know that this is not proper for a Betta *SICK* but I think it's slightly better than a non- filtered, heated, aerated bowl.

Hey all. As I've mentioned before I have nine female bettas in a 46gal bowfront tank. They were all doing really well until this morning. My crimson female is swimming on her side and acting kind of lethargic. She's usually one of the more fiesty of the females and will nip my finger if I put it in the water, but this morning she just struggled to swim up to the top to get some air, then drifted back down. She's also turned a very dark crimson, which usually she's more of a bronzish-red than pure red. The only thing even remotely different in the tank is that I floated one of my small males in the tank in an acrylic pet carrier (with a lid) because the water in his tank was too cold and I had no way to heat it, and he got out sometime during the night. All of the females are ignoring him completely, however, so I don't think that's it. Not sure what my levels are at (used to last of my test kit when I set up the tank and haven't had the money to go get another kit), but my water is crystal clear and I have a Penguin 170 filter running on the tank. Any thoughts would be immensely appreciated! Thanks!

I went a bit wild at the LFS last time I was there and bought 2 bettas and 2 gourami, one a dwarf flame and the other we were told was a dwarf blue (not sure on that lol). The one betta would not tolerate the gourami from the first second so I put them in with the other betta. Things had gone well until today when I noticed Roy was making a bubble nest. That seems to have sparked his territorial streak and hes been flaring at the gourami though not chasing when they move. I want to keep them together if possible since they had gotten along well and I dont trust the other betta not to beat himself against a divider to get at Roy.

I ordered some plants at the LFS, a wisteria, anubia coffee?, and java fern and am considering getting something called a arrowhead that the LFS says bettas love in his experience. There are a couple of hiding spots for the gouramin in addition. Do you think this level of planting would provide enough shelter/visibility blocking to keep the gourami and betta together?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here... i came here in desperation to find out if anyone have any explanation to what happened to my Betta fish! :(

As I'm writing this thread, I remain dumbfounded to how on earth my Betta just disappeared from my tank!

I have had a beautiful half moon Betta with a lot of personality. I've had him for about three months. He's been sharing a 12 gallon tank with three African dwarf frogs, 4 tiny Amano shrimps, 2 tiny ghost shrimps, Olive Nirate snails, and Malaysian trumpet snails. He's very active and very personable. He eats from my hands and he loves it when I rub my hands on him. Today, I went to the tank to feed him and he was no where to be found!!! I have a covered tank and there's no holes on the cover whatsoever! It has a pump, air bubbler and biological filtration. So him being sucked into a filter is out of the question! I opened the pump, and he wasn't there. I tore out my tank... emptied all the water out emptied the gravel and inspected carefully for him or even any his remains... and there wasn't any trace of him!

Even though it was a closed tank and there would be no way for him to have escaped, I did look on the floor and he wasn't there. Cat is out of the question also. So, please, if someone have the slightest idea of how on earth my Betta just dropped out of the face of the earth, I would really appreciate an answer! What happened really doesn't make sense at all! :(

Please help!
