Default Filter set up, help!??

Ok, so I wanted a 100 gal tank, was shopping around for full set ups and was looking at close to $1000 for what i wanted. A friend let me know about an online "yard sales" site that people in my area sell anything and everything under the sun. I found a 125g, with stand, canopy and everything else you would need to get started except gravel and fish for $500. It came with a hang on side filter that I am familiar with and able to maintain. It also came with what I am calling a sump filter(really not sure what it is called). It is one of those with the bio balls. I would like to set up that filter but it is in peices and came with no instructions. I have posted pictures in my album of all the pieces. http://www.myfishtank.net/photopost/...ry.php?cat=612
If anyone knows how to put this thing together and could explain it to me I would be most grateful. I will be setting the tank up in Jan when I move into my new house. Thank you for any help you could offer. the pumps have the label rio 1700 and rio 1300. and the only other labels are on the sides of the plastic parts and says aqua clear. I have been told that it is a nice filtration system. Help please.

Nice deal on the tank..I checked out the pics not much I can help with unfortunately, while I have seen those filter setups I have no idea how they work or how to set one up. Be patient and someone here will come along with some help.

P.S. Are you new here?? I checked your profile and it shows only 1 thread you have posted in (this one) but shows a post count of 22..hmmm..how strange... Any way if you are new WELCOME....

I am sure the holdiays have something to do with it. But when I go to new posts, I rarely see any. But then I start going thru the threads and there are a ton I haven't seen.

Welcome to the tank!

Welcome to the site! What you have looks like a HOB (hang-on back) overflow system.

There are pics on this page of how the plumbing works: Melevsreef.com - Install a Sump in an Existing Setup

Scroll down to the "plumbing" section for pics of most of the parts you have.

It looks like you also have a protein skimmer (for saltwater tanks), which you won't need.

Thank you, that site: Melevsreef.com - Install a Sump in an Existing Setup

It was helpful, I at least have an idea what goes where. I will be taking pictures of mine as I set it up next month maybe a video, and posting it on here. Maybe it will at least show people how I messed it up so they dont do the same thing! Anyway, thanx again for the help.

Default Another quick question

I was thinking about running the overflow/sump system and the HOB "cartraige?" filter. Any problems with this??

It would be fine to run both the HOB filter and the sump system. It won't cause any problems.

Think it has anything to do with the members being out and about making, having, and raising babies?

Welcome to the tank, Chasemtc
That's a really good deal on the tank... I've spent at least... $800+ on my 100g tank alone...
