| I've thought of trying this as well. I guess you need to start with a water pump, right? |

| Yeah, I figure I need a pump, a box to hold the water while it passes over the UV light, and the light, There are few configurations I have thought of, but was wondering what you guys thought. I figure for a basic disign, is to build an acrylic box with a hole on either side of it for the hosing. Then on top of the box i could put a UV light. The end. Is it that simple? or is there more to it?

| It's probably important to know more about the light itself: Do you know anything about UV lights used in UV filters? Wattage, et all? Should also take into consideration how much water flows under it per sec. |

| Well, I did a little google searching. I guess the consensus is that, due to the expense and danger of UV bulbs, a DIY sterilizer is not worth it. |

| What type of danger are you reffering to? Do they get to hot? Does it do damage to your skin cells? What are the dangers that you are talking about? I know that it gets really hot, but if you use glass then shouldnt that eliminate that problem?

| Basically, if you look at it you can blind yourself very quickly. Severe eye and skin damage can occur after very brief exposure. This is the part of the spectrum we use sun screen and sun glasses to protect ourselves against, right? Quote: |
The extent of DNA damage depends upon the level and duration of exposure as well as the strength of the exposed organism. The key human health effects from exposure to UV-B include skin cancer, cataracts, and immunosuppression. Other dermatological effects include severe photo-allergies and accelerated aging of the skin. Although cataracts and cataract-related blindness are related to cumulative exposure to UV-B, acute exposures may cause photokeratitis or "snow-blindness." Damage to the skin by UV-B reduces its immunological defenses, weakening resistance to infectious diseases as well as to skin tumors, and some vaccines may lose their effectiveness.
| Maybe your more handy than I at the DIY projects, but I wouldn't trust one of these that I built. |
