well, here it is! I went to about 8 stores today and couldnt find the tri-tube lights for my life. So I had no choice but to get the spiral ones. They just about fit. All I can say is thanks to GIS Guy for this great DIY idea! Right now its ghetto reflectorized with aluminum foil. I'm probably going to pick up chrome Monokote, the stuff thats used to cover model airplanes. Also, I may have to add a fan or vent somewhere but i've had it on for about 6 hours with no melted plastic hehe.

Congrates MrBungle!
It looks really good.
Without plants you can take your time finding the reflector material.

If he isn't going to do plants, then K doesn't matter much.
It is all personal preference of the color of the tank at that point.
More reddish or More bluish.

okay...
I was doing a similar one on my 36 inch hood, with 4 lamps in it. Being the extra safe person that I always am, I used a computer power cord, and I am going to ground the reflector.

Tropicalfish,
Cool idea, I also have extra computer power cords.
Yesterday I made my own power cord w/ 16 guage and a plug, but that sounds even better.

Here is a model of my hoods (36 and 12)
I am planning to do the light changeup on both these hoods.
I am doing this cooling method:

The 36 inch has a 2x2 exhaust on the back middle, and both sides are intake fans

On the 12, the left is an intake fan, and the vents are blocked off except 1/3 of the left vent. This is where the heated air will be forced out.
