| The 20W bulb gives out approx. the same amount of light as a 75W incandescent bulb, but the only difference is that the CF bulbs are plant friendly, where the incandescents are useless for planted tanks. So if you light your room with the 20W bulb, it will be like using a 75W incandescent bulb. No gimicks.

| Alright I have come to a temporary blockage.
I have a 12v cooling fan from a computer power supply.
This fan's purpose is now to provide cooling to the light fixture.
Since the fan is only 12v I would need to purchase a DC converter to bring down the 110v.
The other option is to go to WalMart and purchase the smallest and lease expensive fan there and DIY it to the fixture.
The fixture sits on a typical plastic hood which doesn't allow air flow under it.
The vents on the top of the fixture are open, but without proper air flow do not really help. Questions are:
Has anyone added cooling is a similar fashion?
How was it accomplished?
Do I have other alternatives available?
My other consideration is to skip the fan all together and just drill some ventilation holes in the back.
That was heated air would rise out of the vents on top and cool air would be drawn in the back. Any and all feedback is very welcome. |

| Yes, you can use a computer fan with a converter. Computer fans are nice, because you can build them into the hood fairly neatly.
There are also now some plug in small fans made for this purpose, available online. Like this one: Fluorescent Aquarium Lighting: Aqualight Cooling Fan Kit
It's basically a computer fan built to run without a converter, but it's nice for the lazy or the electrically challenged. |

| Thnx.
I will get a pic.
My next step is to attach computer cooling fans.
I will make clean cut-outs for the fans and run them will transformers.
Currently there is 1 power-supply fan sitting on top pushing air into it.
I found out that chargers for hair clippers, etc work well for powering fans. |

| Pic should be coming soon.
I have to remember my camera.
In the meantime...
I am waiting for the Municipal auction to happen on Oct. 14.
After that any computers not sold will be tossed out.
I can then get my hands on free cooling fans. |

| Hi, I am new here.
Do you keep the vents blocked off with the tape? or are you going to cut one in the side or something, where the fan goes,? |
