Post DIY indoor pond

Well, I got the OK from the wife to begin putting together some thoughts and specs for a tropical fish pond in my basement. The pool table has to go though, but I don't play much anyways.

My specs are as follows, and this is only brain storming. Nothing is final.

Looking at 9 long by 9 foot wide. 2 feet, 6 inches deep. This is just the inside, and the water level.

Not sure of contruction, but Marine wood with brick for support, liner on the inside(over the cement floor I have already and up the sides)

I am making it multi level like a river tank. There will be a 2 feet X 8 feet (water at 2 feet 6 inches) area that flows down 2 inches to a huge area, then another one that is another 2 inches down(another 8 footer by 2 footer but more of an "L".

I really am excited about it.

My buddy has a pool filter for it(not sure on a pump.) Lighting wont be too hard(walmart power compacts).

Probebly divide the tank levels with the plywood, make water falls, islands, caves, planted areas.

All tropical, so a heater is going to be an expense in the winter.(naw, I will just move my dryer vent inside (heh) )

Anyways, any tips, advice, links, ideas, comments are very welcome.

I will never get my 300 gallon dream tank, so I will settle for this.

LOL...well after i showed her where it would be, how high it was, and my drawings of it....she said I could get a 260, 300 gallon or whatever for the basement.

So my dream tank will happen..as long as I don't build the pond. LOL....I was actually getting excited...but I will give up the chore for a 240 plus gallon tank......which of course will host a ton of smaller fish in a planted envirnment.

I suppose DIY Co2 will lead to either a DIY pressure system, or a bought one.(I didn't tell her that yet..shhhh)

Have you looked into making the tank out of plywood with a glass pane? *At least you have some viewing pleasures unlike a pond where you look at the surface. *If you have the tools, it is still feasible.
