Post Cutting an acrylic tank?

Hey Folks!

Just curious, I'm working on ways to upgrade my darn regent 10gal (acrylic) tank's lighting. And about my best option seems to be to cut the hood (the main part of the hood on the tank is glued to the tank itself)

Question is, can I do this? Should I do this? I think its used partly as a brace, so should I use some sort of strapping to help support the remaining hood?

(Plan is to add the 15w flourescent from my 20g (its getting 2 33w 24" flourescents) plus the existing 13w CF, and add another 13w flourescent)

Thoughts? Ideas?

Andy

Need to see the picture of this tank.  Can't comment on it unless the bracing is to add stability to the tank.
