| Bloated Betta Uh, so I came back from a three week vacation, and my betta looks worse. He was kind of bloated before we left and I tried feeding him peas, which he didn't eat. I told the person who was taking care of him and the other fish to feed him less. That didn't help. Here's what poor Finfin looks like now:
I did some research and came up with dropsy. Unfortunately he does seem to have some pine cone scales on his right side. He seems to be eating and swimming fine. I tried the peas again but he won't touch them. He only eats the betta bites. I also found a dead fish in his tank (one of the tetras that I figured was soon to go anyway.) But what should I do with Finfin?

| You could try cutting up the pea and make it look like his betta bites.

And if it's dropsy, I can't do anything about it, right?

| You can do something for drospy. One you could try salt baths, actually if you just search for dropsy you can find tons of sites about people's treatments for bettas, also you can try a medication that treats internal bacteria, one highly recommeded to me was Maracyn II I believe. Also you can find some medicated fish food that treats internal bacteria. I am currently working with treating one of my corys with dropsy and these are the best ideas I have found with treatment, I cannot do salt baths on corys though, but I have heard a lot of people having success with salt baths on bettas.
Oh and Good luck!

| Finfin died today. I tried salt baths and no feeding but nothing worked. And he definitely had dropsy because he started getting really pinecony today. I would have gotten some meds maybe tomorrow, but now it's too late anyway. No more bettas for me in the near future, thanks for the help though.
