Default ode to a fish

i had a fish and his name was Earl.Today he died at the ripe old age of 4 or at least thats how long i had him.Isnt it funny how you can become so attached to a dang fish.I mean come on its just a fish right?Well now every time i look at my tank and i dont see his giant orange body swiming around the lid waiting for my fingers to drop in front of his face with some food I'll always think about him.I named him Earl cause of my grandfather had just passed away when i brought Earl inside and that was his name. Now they are both gone.Of course if you haven't figured out Earl was a goldfish.Just a plain old pond goldfish that i had outside in my landscape. He survived a winter out in that thing even though every other fish died so when i went to get rid of the pond in the spring cause i was sick of it and i just knew all the fish were dead there he was sitting at the bottom waiting to be saved. So long story short i brought him inside where he quickly became my favorite pet i had and now he is gone. I know this is pretty silly writing a memorial for a fish but it is something i had to do.Yes I do know he was only a fish but I sure am going to miss him.

Hey an animal is an animal, no matter what shape, size, look etc...

My cousin had a beautiful Angel fish (9 years old) yes he really was.. He died in the NYC black out, we were all there with potato mashers trying to keep him alive, but he slowly suffocated to death... So I know what you are talking about, it is really sad, and you feel devastated, especially if you saved him before....

Hang in there,

Marie

Sorry for your loss. I understand your need to post a memorial to Earl. Yes, they are fish, but they are also and extension of our responsibility. I am particularly close to Finchy because he almost died and I was able to nurse him back. I literally checked on him every few minutes during the day (thank God I work from home) and lost sleep at night.

I like to think each fish teaches us something about ourselves in the way we treat them.

just wondering how this is possible? When we had the blackout here a few weeks ago we were trying to figure out a way to keep all our tanks alive...

Litterally agitating the water with them, in order to get some oxygen into the tank.. It was horrible....
