Anyone have any comments/info about this method of filtration? Positives/negatives?

Yes.  I know a couple of people who are using this setup.  You place miracle mud in you sump and let caluerpa grow which is similar to a refugium.  The mud contains elements essential for plant/macroalgae growth.
However, it's not for sure what's the so called "miracle" in this system because it could be basically dirt shoveled from your back yard and sold for a big profit.  This system will probably run $300 for a 60 gallon setup.
Yet I can't argue with results because both of the reefers I know have had good results over the last couple of years and miracle mud has to be changed every couple of years.

Interesting system but Im always unsure of trying the 'newest' things on the market.
